New-s.
Since I last blogged, the following has happened:
1. We bought a brand new white 2006 Toyota Corolla LE. It’s beautiful.
2. We are trying to sell our old car. Buzz me if you are interested in buying a trusty black ’92 Honda Accord LX with 115K miles on it. For about $2500. 3. Busy with work. But then, who isn’t.
4. Watched “The Lord of War” and “Constant Gardener”. Both are great movies. Makes you think about the value of human life, and the nature of exploitation. “The Lord of War” particularly makes you confront a kind of evil that underlies the weapons industry. M. Scott Peck (Of “The Road less traveled” fame) describes it as the “the evil of compartmentalization”. That you could be doing your job, but in order to maintain a clear conscience, you don’t connect the dots and see how that job may hurt people who you wouldn’t normally want to hurt. The idea that the Nazi concentration camp wardens were merely, “doing their job”, and that “if they didn’t, somebody else would have”, and stuff like that. It’s also interesting how we apply similar logic to less sinister situations, as justification for something that would otherwise prick our conscience.
5. The Hurricanes happened. They blowed. Though there is limited concrete scientific causation between global warming and these hurricanes, I personally suspect that there is one. Then we promptly went and bought a car.
6. Anyesha’s parents left. They reached India safely, and it seems like they had a nice trip here overall.

7. We hit a deer. It was 7 in the evening, traffic was moving slowly (50 MPH) on MD-295 and visibility was good. I have driven faster there when it has been darker. This deer just walks onto the road, stares at me, I swerve the car to avoid it by going onto the buffer road area on the right near the rumble strips, and the deer tries to run back into the woods and onto my headlights. Headlights smash, car dents. We stop the car. The deer is still alive. It is removed to the side of the road. We call park police. And then go on our way. Shaken. We dish out an extra 250$ for headlights on a car that we were planning to sell anyway.
8. Anyesha tagged me. Because of the tagging, I haven’t updated my blog. Because of this huge pressure to write a witty 55 word short story, and that pressure is squelching the activation energy required to write my thoughts down. At some point, I will do the tags and pass them on.
9. Statcounter is cool.
10. Antardhwani recorded two songs, and we are about to make our own CD of original compositions. Sit tight. . .they’ll be published shortly. Recording songs is hard work though.
